Dr Yasmin Shah

Dr Syed Shah is Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and a specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

He has a special interest in Anxiety and Mood Disorders (including Bipolar Disorder), Eating Disorders, and the diagnosis and management of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders. He has previously held positions as Head of The University of Queensland Ipswich Clinical School as well as Staff Specialist in Child and Youth Mental Health Services in Ipswich, Queensland.

Passionate about clinical psychiatry, Syed has enjoyed teaching junior doctors, registrars and medical students. Syed was awarded the 2011 Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award at The University of Queensland where he is a Senior Lecturer. He is also a Visiting Psychiatrist at a number of Headspace sites across Queensland and New South Wales.

Dr Yasmin Shah is Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and a specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Yasmin works with children, adolescents, and their families to understand and treat conditions mainly including anxiety, mood disorders (depression and bipolar illnesses), OCD, PTSD, neurodevelopment disorders (ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder), eating disorders, as well as any relational or attachment challenges.

Yasmin is comfortable with biological approaches where appropriate in addition to psychological, social and cultural considerations. She is trained in delivering Circle of Security Parenting and Tuning into Kids courses and utilises psychodynamically-informed work. She enjoys working with people from all walks of life and providing holistic patient-centred care within multidisciplinary teams.

Yasmin graduated from Melbourne University Medical School after studying Health Sciences at The University of Queensland. She has valued the training opportunities and her time interstate. Yasmin enjoys conducting research to better inform practices and has presented at the RANZCP Congress, the Asia-Pacific Conference on Women’s Mental Health, and the International Childhood Trauma Conference. 

After more than a decade later, Yasmin has returned to Ipswich where she is excited to provide a service for the wider community that helped shape her. In her spare time, she enjoys horse-riding, learning different languages, and spending time with her family and friends.
